Discover Our Newest Regional Park!
Sonoma County’s newest regional park, just 15 minutes from downtown Santa Rosa, is expected to open to the public this year. Mark West Regional Park has a fascinating history that began with the Southern Pomo and Wappo peoples. In the 1880s, Mexican Governor Juan Alvarado granted the land to early settlers, including the namesake Mark West. For many years, this beautiful area was privately owned and used for ranching, rodeos, and horseback riding. In 2002, Sonoma County Ag + Open Space embarked on a remarkable $23 million journey to bring this land into the care of Sonoma County Regional Parks. Today, the preserve remains largely untouched, showcasing a variety of habitats and trails that you can explore via Porter Creek Road.
