We first met Cory Maguire in May of 2012 when we inherited a rental property in Sebastopol. Living out of state we needed “eyes on the market” in Sebastopol to help us to better understand the rental and sales market in Sonoma County. Cory met with us to do a market appraisal and offered ideas about what to do about deferred maintenance and upgrades, referrals for reputable contractors and workmen, etc. Even though we were not interested in selling and were managing the property ourselves from a distance – we felt it was important to establish a relationship with a reputable realtor. We kept the relationship going through occasional phone calls, emails and meeting in person when we were in the area. Cory was always quick to respond to questions and concerns even though we were not selling or looking to buy a property. Fast forward 7 years and we decided to sell. We were certainly happy that we had already found the right person for the job. It was not an easy situation as we had current long-term renters and the property had some interesting challenges along the way. We found Cory to have GREAT and CREATIVE ideas, on a budget. She is honest, sensitive, practical, organized, genuinely enthusiastic, pays attention to detail and is a great communicator. Her instincts are spot on. We highly recommend her. We worked with Cory for nearly two years to find a place in the Sebastopol area. We were kind of fussy in our requirements and parsimonious to boot, but she never lost her patience or wasted our time looking at properties that didn’t match up closely enough. When our offers weren’t the accepted ones on some properties, her upbeat attitude helped move us off of our disappointment and on to the next opportunity in short order. Along the way, she educated us about the community, and its culture and governance. Her passion for Sebastopol goes well beyond making a living there and she walks the talk of a professional, fully engaged, civic-minded citizen.
When “our” place finally came onto the market as a short sale with some serious complications, her advice how to construct a successful offer was the key to its acceptance from a field of other offers. The closing was unusually tight, and we live 800 miles away, so it took a lot of coordination on her part to make sure that the inspections, financing, insurances, and other components were done in a timely manner. She knew all of the right people to use for the process and we were well served by them both before and after the sale. The bumps along the way were disconcerting at times, but Cory has a very good way of putting all things into their proper perspective and providing appropriate encouragement. At the same time, I don’t doubt for a moment that if it would have been appropriate for a valid reason, she would have been the first person to advise us to pull the plug on the deal.
Cory has the rare skill of subtly arbitrating spousal differences of opinion, and we both trust her judgment and instincts implicitly. I think her “singleness of purpose” in pursuit of a successful transaction would make Vince Lombardi smile. Furthermore, we have taken her up on her offer to “call if you need anything” in the time since the sale, and Cory has provided us with very useful references for services, suppliers, and local shopping and attractions. We wouldn’t consider anyone else to work with in the future of our real estate transactions in the area.
