Bi-Partisan Disaster Resiliency and Coverage Act Proposed
In reaction to Californiaâs home insurance crisis, a bipartisan bill has been proposed to help offset the cost of fire resilience for homeowners. The legislation is co-authored by Mike Thompson, a Democrat, and U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa, a Republican representing the county where the devastating Paradise Fire occurred. If it passes, the bill will provide grants of up to $10,000 for homeowners in disaster-prone regions to carry out hazard mitigation work on their homes, and there is a generous income cap for eligibility. Property owners, farms, and businesses would also receive a 30 percent tax credit for these mitigation activities. The tax credit will assist larger property owners when their cost exceeds $10,000. In addition, payments from state-run disaster resiliency programs and various federal emergency agricultural programs are not considered income for federal tax purposes. It also advises insurers to consider owners’ mitigation efforts when setting premiums, which should help  keep prices lower. Jared Huffman is a co-sponsor of the bill, which was introduced in March and is named the Disaster Resiliency and Coverage Act of 2024 (H.R. 7849). Tell all your friends, this sounds like a great program!

I could not put this book down! There’s a twist half way through that I didn’t see coming, the author’s vocabulary is quite impressive, my general lexicon improved! The story centers around New Yorkâs elite in the early 20th century. A best seller, and no doubt, it kept me at the edge of my seat until the very end.
Itâs the 100th anniversary of the famous Ceasar salad! Italian immigrant Caesar Cardini is credited with inventing the Caesar salad on July 4, 1924, at his restaurant, Caesarâs Place, in Tijuana, Mexico. It was a hot night, and Cardini was struggling to serve a surge of Californian customers who had crossed the border to flee Prohibition. In the midst of the dining room, Cardini mixed whole Romaine lettuce leaves with ingredients he had on hand, such as garlic-flavored oil, Worcestershire sauce, lemons, eggs, and Parmesan cheese. And thus, the Caesar salad was created!
Year over year, the median sales price in Sonoma County for single family homes dropped 2% to $833K, a modest amount given the significant hike in interest rates. We’re watching carefully the relationship between supply and demand. The data points to a 47% jump in inventory year over year but a near 10% drop in sold properties.
