First State Park in 15 years, what makes Dos Rios different?
Known to locals as āTwin Rivers,ā Dos Rios Ranch Preserve with its 2,100 acres, is a stunning model of flood restoration. “We transformed a former farming operation that was prone to frequent flooding into thriving natural riverside habitat”. Situated on theĀ convergence of the San Joaquin and Tuolumne Rivers, this effort has been years in the making and speaks to the success of public and private partnerships. More than 350,000 native trees and vegetation have been planted along the 8 miles of the two rivers. Habitats for endangered animals, including sandhill cranes, riparian brush rabbits, and Central Valley Chinook salmonĀ are being restored and the former farm has become a thriving habitat for wildlife, people, and natural resources.
But you’ll have to travel a wee bit, cause this little gem is in the Central Valley, Modesto to be precise. And for thisĀ localĀ community which previously had limited access to public lands, they will now have more opportunities to explore public spaces with hiking, picnicking, and possibly camping.Ā Ā We’re excited about this and canāt wait to visit and explore!
