Freestone – Micro Village, Major Destination
Five miles west of Sebastopol, Freestone nestles on the bank of Salmon Creek at the intersection of Bohemian and Bodega Highways. The village is a real treasure and a quietly popular destination, but don’t blink.
Many first-time Freestone visitors come to experience the Japanese-style cedar enzyme bath at Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary. After half a day or longer in treatments and the spa’s extensive fairy-tale Japanese meditation garden, visitors usually find they’re not ready to rush off anywhere. Luckily, the town’s got plenty of reasons to relax here a while longer.
Along a peaceful stroll through town await a world-class wood-fired bakery, an estate winery, artisan cheese shoppe, and old-fashioned general store, not to mention the simple serenity of the town’s meadowy valley. This makes it a regular pause for many headed toward the coast or following the Sonoma Grown Farm Trails. The town itself and the gentle nearby hikes make great locations for a quiet picnic.
Freestone’s tiny size packs heavy charm. Once you’ve visited this noteworthy village you’ll return often.
