Spring has Sprung!

Election Season is in full swing!
Our 5th District has some interesting folks running for the Board of Supervisors seat. I am seeing more and more folks getting involved in local and national politics! The Press Democrat wrote up a piece highlighting some core issues that each of the candidates is standing for. My hope is that we all continue to become more informed and engaged in our civic duties. Details about the coming forums are here.
Free Our Coast!
The State Parks Department is pursuing a controversial appeal process with the Coastal Commission with goal of installing fee kiosks at multiple Sonoma Coast beaches in an attempt to address budget problems. There has been significant outcry from our community on this issue. There is much to learn and participate in.
A video from a local filmmaker documenting the issue and the history of environmental activism in Sonoma. In addition, the Coastal Commission had a hearing this week (April 13th) to hear from the public where many people showed up protesting the State Parks proposal.
A personal creative project interviewing local folks and friends with interesting short stories.
A way of getting to know our neighbors, the true fabric of our community
My friend and colleague Lisa recently shared a wonderful story about her connection to Hawaii and a beautiful offer that comes with it!
“My Father-in-law went to the Big Island in 1975 and purchased a brand new condo with gorgeous views, ideal location, privacy and sunsets! A short 1.5 mile walk into town, right past the most terrific Farmer’s Market where you can buy delicious, ripe Papayas for 3,5 or 7 for $2, depending on the season. In 2004, when “Dad” was 90 years old and it became too difficult for him to climb up the three flights of stairs, he sold it to a man in Oregon. That was fortunate for us because that man remodeled it beautifully! He let us rent it from him all these years and now he’s allowing us to buy it back into our Family! At first, he didn’t want to accept a “Contingent Offer”, but after I sent him all that is required to do a Reverse Exchange, he realized how much this place meant to us, and he sent me an e-mail saying that he was going to accept our Contingent Offer! We put our other Kona condo on the Market at an aggressive price and received an offer the very next day!”
Lisa is offering this beautiful Ocean-Front 1 Bedroom condo at an unbelievable rate of just $600/week through August 31!
She says: “Because this condo means so much to us, we are not going to put it on Craig’s List, AirBnB, or VRBO. We want to share it with the responsible people we know or responsible people you know! So if you’d like to pass this offer to your friends, you can, but please make sure they know who they got the flyer from because I will be asking who referred them. I am also making every effort to get these flyers to our Schools; I would love for Teachers to take advantage of this wonderful limited-time offer. So please do pass this on to any Teachers you know!”
Oh, and by the way, another curious detail about this family – Lisa’s husband’s great grandfather emigrated from Portugal to Hawaii and on his journey over he built the Ukulele!
Please let me know if you’re interested and I will put you in contact with her!
